What’s one word that aptly describes children? Life! They’re so full of it – rambunctious, and full of zest! Photographing active lively children is, if I may borrow a quip from Forrest Gump, like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get! You know you’re going to get some great shots, but what kind? There’s the thrill of it all – capturing all that exuberance and personality.

I couldn’t help but be drawn by the ease of which Liam (the subject of this particular shoot) carried himself in front of my camera. He was a natural! No coaching or coaxing needed at all by mommy or me. Here are some pictures from the shoot!

This post is slightly out of the ordinary. For one, it’s the first proper post after a really long hiatus. Secondly, it’s not the usual one showcasing pictures of portraits and weddings and engagements. I just thought I’d post some photos of I took during my travel to Hong Kong last year (I know! That seems like aeons ago…) for posterity’s sake. Hong Kong was a nice place to visit for a few days, and we had fun. Here are some of the highlights!

Arie and Lisa: Bersanding Ceremony

Sorry for the lack of updates, but to make up for it, I’m posting up a bumper image-laden post. What can I say about Arie and Lisa’s wedding? It was hot (as in the weather), there was a bit of a wardrobe malfunction for the groom while he was getting ready (just a tiny bit…) which turned out okay in the end, but no such problems for the resplendent bride. The bersanding was held at two venues, and on the way to the groom’s residence, Arie’s friends formed the wedding convoy – all on motorcycles!

Arie and Lisa: Majlis Berinai

After the akad nikah the previous day, the next was the malam berinai (henna marking) which was done in the evening of the following day. I must say it’s not very often I attend one of these ceremonies, so I couldn’t help but be curious what would transpire that night. Prayers and readings from the Quran started it off, which was then followed by the majlis berinai or “menepung tawar” (I had to google this up to find out its actually name!). It’s the act of sprinkling some scented water on the groom and putting some henna on his open palms. I had previously thought that this happened only during the Majlis Bersanding (the next post!), but as it’s been said – there’s always something new to learn. The night ended with some serious entertainment – no less a live band to get everyone getting jiggy!

Have you ever wondered why there is such a phrase such as “the father of the bride”? I have. I mean, why only the father of the bride? Why not the mother of the bride? Or the father of the groom? Maybe it has to do with the deep feelings of pride a father may have when he sees his daughter all resplendent in that wedding dress, about to get married and form a new family with her husband; or maybe it hints at that special indescribable bond that fathers and daughters share; or maybe it’s a bit of both. Whatever the reason for this seemingly “lopsided” focus (after all, a wedding involves the parents of both the bride and groom), I thought, if the father of the bride felt such pride, what about his counterpart on the groom’s side?

I share with you a single picture taken on the day of my cousin’s son, Arie, and his bride, Lisa’s solemnisation ceremony (the akad nikah) not too long ago as a sort of sneak preview to the coming full posts. I took this image while I was at the groom’s place. I was waiting for the groom to start getting ready, standing outside his room when I turned around and saw this scene before me – the groom’ s father looking pensive. I wonder what he was thinking then.

I have only discovered yesterday that the contact page on this website had not been working as it should. It was only when my sister-in-law told me that she tried sending a mock enquiry that I suspected something amiss. I wondered why I didn’t receive that notification. So, I checked the settings and discovered, to my horror, that the enquiries were not forwarding to my main mail. I have already sent an email to everyone of you who took the trouble to make an enquiry to offer my apologies, but I thought I’d make it official right here.

Sorry for the none reply. The fact is I usually answer all enquiries within 24 hours, unless I’m away on assignment. I hope that every one of you who enquired finally managed to find another photographer who was able to meet your needs, and more importantly that you gained photos that you can treasure for the rest of your lives. I thank you that you liked what you saw on my website, and believed that I was good enough, for you to make that enquiry. Sorry that I could not be a part of your event.

But, I’m glad to say that everything has been rectified and the contact form is working as it should again. I tested, and retested it and all notifications reached my mailbox safely. My commitment remains the same – to reply to all your questions and enquiries within 24 hours, and to provide you the best service to my ability. Thanks for your support.

The all-new website!

Thanks for all your patience while I revamped the entire website. Well, this is it – my spanking new website with all the bells and whistles! As you can see, the focus is now on the images I take. Check out the images in my portfolio and view them extra, extra large! I love this new feature on the site. I hope you’ll make yourself right at home here.

Apart from undertaking the momentous task of revamping the website, I’ve also been pretty busy with some assignments. I’ll be sharing some images taken during the course of a three-day wedding event I had the privilege of being a part of. But, that’s for the upcoming posts. As for now, tell me what you think about the new website? I’d love to get your feedback. Go explore every little nook and cranny, and let me know if you spot any errors.
